The town of Taos has upgraded its Water Restrictions in response to severe drought conditions this year that have impacted the town's water supply. The new restrictions went into effect on Friday, Sept. 18.
Despite recent rain, the record drought has continued to put a strain on groundwater levels and well production. At the same time, two wells remain offline for repairs.
Under the new rules:
- Outdoor watering with sprinkler systems is prohibited
- Vehicle washing and outdoor drip irrigation are limited to one hour, one day per week (even-numbered addresses on Tuesday, odd-numbered addresses on Wednesday)
- Outdoor washing of buildings, streets and sidewalks is prohibited, except to remove hazardous materials
The town is asking residents, businesses and visitors to comply with the restrictions.
