“TEACHNewMexico.org is strengthening our existing pathways to becoming an educator,” Public Education Secretary Mariana D. Padilla said. “Research shows that highly qualified teachers are the number one factor in student success. Strong teachers not only increase academic achievement of their students, but they also hold high standards that motivate students to persist in school and feel connected and capable.”
New Mexico’s educator pathways reflect the diversity of entry points into teaching and are designed to meet individuals where they are. These pathways include the following opportunities:
- Educators Rising is a statewide program for high school students interested in teaching.
- NM Educator Fellows offers paid, in-classroom roles for aspiring teachers completing coursework.
- The TeachUp Scholarship covers full tuition, fees and books for future educators earning their degree through San Juan College and Western New Mexico University.
- Residency and alternative licensure programs provide job-embedded training and mentoring, including the University of New Mexico’s District Partner Teacher Residency and CNM’s Indigenous Teacher Preparation Project.
