The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is in the middle of a 90-day public comment period on its proposal to close around 351,000 acres of public lands surrounding Chaco Culture National Historical Park to future oil and gas leasing for the next 20 years. Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project says that this measure would go a long way toward providing lasting protection to this sacred landscape and honor the wishes of Diné community leaders, the All Pueblo Council of Governors, local communities, elected officials, advocates, and many others. As a part of the comment period, BLM has scheduled three public meetings (two on Feb. 23 and one on Feb. 24) to solicit public input on their proposed withdrawal.
